Residential: Historic Church Renovation

Historic Church
New Orleans, LA

This unique project completed during the COVID epidemic began with Linder Baptie Architects' project management of an existing contract to build a residential compound and evolved into our taking the lead role of Architect. The church in an historically Black neighborhood had lost it's congregation in the flooding during Hurricane Katrina and had significantly deteriorated. The exterior work we completed includes the restoration of the historic brick church. An open air gallery was added to connect the church to a four bedroom guest house and created the stage set for a landscaped courtyard.

The church interior features two great rooms for entertaining: a large upper floor reached by a grand circular stair, and a spacious ground floor open to expansive kitchen.

Details of the interior include custom cabinetry, metal work with a raw industrial aesthetic.
